The End of 2009
I love the end of the year music lists. I’m currently fighting my way through a dozen or so lists going back and covering all the albums I somehow missed or didn’t spend enough time with.
- Our friends at We Are Hunted put together a list of the 99 most popular songs and artists that emerged in 2009. And Hype Machine is just releasing their Music Blog Zeitgeist.
- The All Music Guide editors list their favorite albums of the past year.
- ABC’s Dan Harris has a great list through his Amplified site of the best albums of ’09 (purposely leaving Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective off his list).
- Lala’s also got a great aggregation of year end lists from Pitchfork, Billboard, Paste, JamBase, Filter and Others. Thankfully they are all playable.
- Our friend Ian Rogers has a great post Music Is The Best, 2009 Edition. Fred Wilson also has his top tracks and top records of 2009.
So open up the tabs, put on your headphones and start soaking in the best music from the past year. And what a year it was.
2009 saw the launch of Next Big Sound, the close of our financing round with our dream list of investors, our first outside hire and lots of exciting conversations and partnerships in the ever-changing music industry. We are hard at work developing the tools to help the industry measure, understand and prosper in the online music world.
2010 will be a BIG year for us.
Great job, guys! You are certainly one of the companies out there that gives companies like mine much inspiration. Excellent work.
Thanks Shane! Great meeting you back in 2009. All the best in the new year.
